Keeping your son motivated at the end of the school year
As the school year wraps up, kids often find their minds drifting to the holidays, making it a challenge to stay focused. Schools often slip into another gear at this time of year too, with movies and games taking over from traditional learning.
While it’s natural for your boy to feel ready for a break, the final weeks of school are still important for finishing tasks and building confidence to take into the new year of school. Here are some practical tips to help him stay motivated.
Keep the end in sight. Use a countdown calendar to mark off the days until the holidays. This can give him something to look forward to while staying on track.
Stick to routines. Consistent bedtimes, meals, and homework schedules help maintain focus and prevent the end-of-term slump.
Celebrate the little wins. Recognise his efforts, whether with verbal praise, a favourite snack, or extra time to do what he enjoys.
Tie school to the holidays. Help him see how finishing strong benefits him later, such as working on his English to write better postcards or emails on holidays.
Be a source of positivity. Stay upbeat and remind him how proud you are of his efforts throughout the year.
This is the time of year when our kids start to feel the pull of summer and the exhaustion from a full year of school. With a bit of structure and encouragement you can help him stay motivated until the final bell!
