Books that teach kids empathy
Unless you’ve been living under a rock this past week, you’ll have heard about the Victorian Education Department’s Respectful Relationships program for state primary schools. What has made national headlines is the program’s focus on deconstructing traditional fairytales and looking at the gender roles they contain.
Whatever you think of this aspect of the Victorian Government’s program, the media coverage has put a spotlight on what we read to our kids and the impact the books we choose can have.
Today, we’re putting the spotlight on books that teach kids about empathy, kindness and caring for others. Because kids can never have too much empathy, or too many books for that matter.
This list from Commonsense Media has some great book suggestions for parents of toddlers, teens and every boy (and girl) in between.
