15 ways to teach mindfulness to kids

It seems like everyone and his dog is crowing about ‘mindfulness’ at the moment. It may be a buzzword, but please don’t dismiss mindfulness as a fad. It could be the most important life skill you teach your son.

Mindfulness simply means maintaining a present moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations and surrounding environment (as opposed to rehashing the past or imagining the future).

At its core, mindfulness is a simple and useful tool for navigating your way through life – no matter how old you are.

Research shows that, for children, mindfulness can build self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and even improve academic performance. It also helps them get into good habits while they’re young, giving them the tools to deal with life’s ups, downs and in-betweens when they reach adulthood.

Here’s a quick step-by-step guide to teaching your kids about mindfulness.
